Researchers within the
Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station, Bagley
College of Engineering at Mississippi, and other units at Mississippi
State are investigating ways of converting biomass to various
renewable energy forms. One major research thrust is to gasify
biomass to produce a synthesis gas (syngas) which is then converted
to chemical products such as ethanol in a bioreactor. The figure
below illustrates the conversion process that is being investigated.
We have projects in Feedstock Development, Gasification, Bioreactor
Fermentation, and System Economics. Research at MSU is funded
by the USDA and DoE.
