Giving to ABE

ABE is excelling and growing in teaching, research, and outreach in these aspects of human well-being: (1) a safe and adequate food supply, (2) safe and adequate natural resources, and (3) advanced healthcare. Donors can support ABE in ways that will have immediate and/or long-term impact on our students, faculty, and staff. Below are a few current opportunities for giving to ABE:

  • Endowed Scholarships for Biosystems Engineering Students
The Biosystems Engineering (BSE) degree program currently has a small number of students, but we are working hard to build it up.  BSE’s emphasis areas are Autonomous Agricultural Systems, Natural Resources and Ecology, and Food Engineering.  We believe an endowed scholarship focused on students in this major would go a long way to building this overall program by covering a lot of the cost of attendance at MSU.
  • High-impact Learning Activities for ABE Students
Support student attendance at technical conferences, international study and field-trip opportunities, etc.  ABE spends $10,000 to $20,000 per year supporting our students on travel to technical conferences, study abroad opportunities, and national competitions like the ASABE Robotics Competition.  Any level of gift for this purpose would be appreciated.
  • Endowed Chairs and Professorships for ABE Faculty
We have some pretty amazing faculty members in ABE.  They are teaching courses, advising and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and conducting cutting-edge research in highly technical fields at levels of quantity and quality that are competitive with any land grant university in the nation.  You can support exceptional faculty members individually as well as their research and teaching programs by contributing to an endowed Chair or Professorship.
  • ABE Annex Building for ABE Students, Faculty, and Staff
The J. Charles Lee Agricultural and Biological Engineering Building is less than 20 years old and still in good condition, but it is small for the size of department we are now: roughly 475 students, 20 faculty members, and about 10 staff members.  A space survey conducted in 2021 stated that ABE needs significant additional space, particularly in teaching laboratories for hands-on instruction, and we would like to see an ABE Annex Building built next to us to meet those needs.  Any level of gift to build towards this large endeavor would be greatly appreciated.
  • Miscellaneous
Support the unspecified needs of the department through gifts of various amounts.
