Funded Projects
- Master Plan for the Stennis Space Center Buffer Zone (NASA). This project was undertaken to create a plan for the development of portions of the 125,000 acre SSC buffer for human use and enjoyment. Status: completed 1999.
- Water Related BMP's in the Landscape (NRCS / Watershed Science Institute). This document was created for the NRCS to provide an introduction to 142 BMP's related to the management of stormwater, erosion prevention, and protection of related systems. Status: completed 1999.
- Minimizing Effluents from Commercial Catfish Ponds (USDA/SRAC). This project began summer, 1999. Seven catfish ponds have been modified and are being used to test a management practice which may reduce groundwater use and effluent release in aquaculture ponds. The linked paper is in pdf format and has been accepted for publication in Aquacultural Engineering. Status: ongoing.
- Natural Beach Restoration and Beach Management in Biloxi, MS (Biloxi Area Chamber of Commerce / MS Department of Marine Resources). The initial purpose of this project, which began in 1995, was to replace conventional storm drains on the Biloxi beach with natural appearing planted areas which would allow stormwater to pass through the beach to the Mississippi Sound. Since that time, the scope of the project has expanded to include beach stabilization, treatment of stormwater runoff, and develpment of a philosophy of beach management. Status: on going.
- MSU-Public School Tall Grass Prairie Restoration - (Mississippi State University Public School Partnership Program). CSD personnel, working closely with teachers from a local high school, created a master plan to restore a nearby tall-grass prairie. The plan included restoration of the highly disturbed 60 acre site, creation of 4 small prairies in stages, site maintenance, and site management. Status: completed 1998.
- Interactive Visitor Center for the Gulf of Mexico Program (EPA/GMP). CSD personnel were contracted by the GMP to create a plan for an indoor / outdoor visitor center at the Stennis Space Center. Status: completed 1997.
